Pros and Cons of Digital Offset Printing

The advantages of digital offset printing are several, among the main ones are:

  • Liquid ink is used, unlike laser printers that use dry toner.
  • The registration between the front and the back is exact.
  • Machine setup is instantaneous and economical.
  • Short and urgent print runs can be done.
  • Variable data can be used, personalizing each sheet.
  • It can be manipulated immediately, so finishing can be done as soon as the print run is finished.
  • Special finishes can be printed at a very good price.
  • It provides excellent photographic quality.
  • Current machines incorporate densitometers that guarantee color stability.
  • Printing on FSC paper is possible.

Some of the disadvantages are:

  • The printing cost is fixed, so it does not decrease when large print runs are made.
  • The maximum paper size to print is oversized tabloid (47 x 33 cm).
  • The range of papers that can be used is more limited.
  • Pantone colors or spot inks cannot be printed, only CMYK.
